Mamma Chia: Snacks that Leave Us Satisfied, and the World Sustained.

Processed and artificial sugars, meet your enemy. And our savior.

With the holidays (and finals!!!) upon us, we're indulging in an on-slot of seasonal sugary sweets, champagne, and candies.  Sustainable Directions has the solution to make sure your NYE get-up still fits after the holiday gauntlet: Mamma Chia’s organic Chia Vitality Bars (with only 4 grams of sugar), Chia Squeeze, or Chia & Greens Beverages. They're packed with Omega-3s, protein, and fiber, helping you feel satisfied and sustained—particularly important to ensure you don’t grab that second serving of stuffing. With Mamma Chia's support, Savannah was able to sample these snacks herself and can verify their taste, nutritional value, satiety, and the company's stride to make good and do good.

What is chia?

Chia are small seeds bursting with nutrition, and have been enjoyed for thousands of years.

According to Mamma Chia, chia seeds come from the desert plant Salvia hispanica, a flowering member of the mint family that is native to North, Central and South America. We can trace its consumption and use all the way back to 3,000 B.C. where it was a staple of both Maya and Aztec diets. These ancient cultures revered the power of chia for its amazing energy and natural healing powers. One tablespoon of chia was considered capable of sustaining a warrior for 24 hours!

Chia is also known for its association with the iconic long distance-running Tarahumara Indians of Mexico’s Copper Canyon, subject of the New York Time’s Bestselling Book Born to Run. Chia is the force they credit for their extraordinary endurance.

 And what is Mamma Chia?

They could have just been a provider of yummy snacks, or healthy foods. But Mamma Chia goes beyond all this, becoming a role model for all triple-bottom-line companies. Mamma Chia is a certified B-Corporation, a member of 1% For the Planet and a founding member of Slow Money. Mamma Chia donates 1% of sales to support farmers, community groups and organizations that are building healthy, local food systems. And Mamma Chia remains transparent about its supply chain by building cooperative relationships with chia growers, with a commitment to supporting their organic certification, social justice programs and overall community growth. All Mamma Chia products are USDA Certified Organic, meaning they are only made with the good stuff, produced without the use of toxic pesticides and fertilizers, antibiotics, synthetic hormones or GMOs.

Enjoy their variety of products: bars, chia squeezes, vitality beverages, granola clusters, and plain ol' organic chia seeds.
